Yaa is an interdisciplinary artist and computational biologist. She grew up in Newcastle Upon Tyne before moving to London to study, completing her PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine in 2020.

Recently, she has been incorporating computational biology methods into her artistic practice in an effort to start conversations around the extractive nature of biosciences under neo-liberalism and create spaces to re-centre wonder, connection and appreciation of life on Earth.

This was the genesis of the event series ‘Tea Service’. An evening of plant sonification, herbal tea drinking and planet solidarity.

Her work spans fine art, song (under her name, Yaa Adoma) and functional/wearable pieces (through her upcoming project, Zelluloze).

She is currently working on her first immersive body of work.
